In addition to regularly testing and balancing your pool, you should stick to a daily routine that ensures that your pool is in good working order. The best way to extend the life of your pool equipment and to keep the water clean and sparkling is to never let problems develop in the first place by sticking to a daily routine:

Skim all leaves and debris: It only takes a few minutes to skim off any leaves and to clean your skimmer baskets, especially if you do it each day.
Add chlorine: If your pool uses chlorine, you’ll need to add it either day, either with a chlorine generator, with tablets or sticks, by hand, or with a chlorine floater.
Running your filter: Ideally you should run your pool filter 24 hours, but be sure to run it at least 8-10 hours per day at a minimum in order to properly filter your water. This is obviously easier if you have a pool timer, as you can simply set it to run on a certain schedule and forget about it.
