Outdoor fire pits are essentially fireplaces for your backyard, patio, or deck that let you enjoy them year-round, even when it’s chilly outside. They’re basically a campfire for your backyard, adding a fun yet functional ambience to your deck or patio.
There are many designs of outdoor fire pits, with most made from steel and/or copper. They typically have a metal stand with a bowl-shaped area where the wood burns, serving as a fire pit to safely enclose and hold the burning wood.
The sky is the limit as far as decorative choices, as many outdoor fire pits are ornately designed, often with copper bowls, and can be square, round, or rectangular. Some also have wheels attached for easily movng the fire pit from place to place. Chiminea style fire pits are becoming increasingly popular, adding an old-fashioned touch with it’s rounded, rustic pot-belly stove look.
Outdoor fire pits can not only add a stylish touch, but they can be functional as well. Not only do they provide welcome warmth in the winter but many come with grills that can be attached so that you can covert the fire pit to an outdoor barbeque, letting you enjoy the best of both worlds!
Always keep safety in mind, though, as fire pits usually sit low to the ground and can be dangerous for young children and pets. As with anything in your home that’s a potential fire hazard, always keep a fire extinguisher close by and test it regularly to ensure it’s in good working condition.
