While pools are definitely nice, they take a lot of time, energy, and supplies to keep in proper working order from opening in the spring or summer to closing in fall or winter. Below you’ll find some of the common swimming pool supplies that you’ll need to keep your pool in working order. These supplies are only those that are regularly consumed and need to be replaced and don’t include other necessary pool equipment such as pool cleaners, pumps, filters, catridges, etc.:

Algaecides: Algae aren’t on good terms with pool owners and you’ll need algaecides to kill off any algae that appear.

Adjusters: These are used to balance the pH and include soda ash, muriatic acid, and sodium bicarbonate.

Sanitizers: These are used to sanitize the pool water and include brominating tablets, chlorine tabs, and granula chlorine.

Shocks: You’ll need to periodically remove all of the icky things introduced to your pool by swimmers such as dead skin cells, body oil, cosmetics and, yes, urine. That’s where shocks come in, which are products that basically super-chlorinate the water.
Enhancers: These include flocculents that attract particles in the water together, causing them to clump together so that your filtration system and cleaning efforts can remove them.

Stain Removers and Tile Cleaners: Pretty self-explanatory, but pools require normal scrubbing and elbow grease just like any surface or area that gets lots of use.
Water Testing: Test kits and test strips help you check how balanced your pool is, letting you know if you need to raise or lower the pH or adjust any other chemical levels.
